When we carve pumpkins I like to let the children draw their design on to the pumpkin and then carve out the pieces. I find this works especially well for the preschoolers. They find the carving hard and get bored quickly with the intricate designs.
This way the pumpkin becomes a real piece of art for them.
They decide where everything goes and draw it on. I then cut it out for them or support older ones with the cutting.  They are so happy when they see the results and love that they have a pumpkin that looks just as they wanted it to!
