Emotional literacy and Emotional intelligence are really important skills for children to develop. Being able to recognise your emotions and regulate them and express them appropriately is important for humans to get along in the wider world. To have successful relationships with others and to be a happy, health person.
I am using stories, conversation and prompts to help the children in my setting to understand what they are feeling and then to manage their responce to this emotion. To feel able to share how they feel and to also show empathy for the others around us. To think how their actions can affect another person’s emotions.
I encourage children to work through what they feel. To cry if they need to. Validate the feeling and then give them the tools too sooth themselves and move forwards.
